A contar del mes de Junio del presente año 2010 y durante 6 semanas, mediante un workshop gratuito y diferenciado para profesores y alumnos, exploraremos generación de formas arquitectónicas a través de la  descripción matemática que permite la herramienta Grasshopper de Rhino. Los ejercicios realizados en software serán manufacturados en la LaserCutter de nuestro LABOMAT.

REQUISITOS

• Ser alumno de la carrera de Arquitectura.
• Estar cursando alguno de los talleres (1er o 5° año).
• Haber realizado los 3 tutoriales que  están disponibles en: http://www.arq.utfsm.cl/unidad-de-integracion-digital-id/

• Venir a todas las sesiones. Perderse una será causal de marginación automática del workshop.

Una vez inscritos recibirán instrucciones para postular al workshop: fechas, horarios, instalación de software, etc … Como serán cupos limitados deberán pasar una entrevista para chequear si realizaron los tutoriales el día 28 de Mayo.

These two new machines work similarly to the Ortogonal Ribs Machine. The first is based on a “2D Metaball” component, applying a full revolution to the rebuilded curve. The second, with a few changes, works with a Rhino surface. Both refers to the “x world axis” as the revolution axis.

Some time ago, I’ve been perfecting this Grasshopper definition, that create a three-dimensional orthogonal system of “ribs” that structure a given surface. A two-dimensional projection of the “3D ribs” with a respective label allow to export the projection for later use in a Laser Cutter or CNC Mill. You can specify the number of “ribs” in the [u, v] local coordinates (considering a rectangular surface), the height of extrusion of the surface, the material thickness, and the label text size. For quick processing of the initial variables, the two “boolean toogle” to recompute the results appear as a  ”false” condition. Put in “true” to process the rest of the machine.

Stand del Departamento Arquitectura para la semana de “Puertas Abiertas 2009” de la UTFSM.

Modelo completamente desarrollado en Rhinoceros y Grasshopper, “anidado” con RhinoNest, y posteriormente mecanizado con RhinoCAM. Mi participación incluye el diseño y las plantillas de corte, el mecanizado CNC y la construcción van por parte del Laboratorio de Materiales (Labomat).

Debido a las restricciones del material (terciado 15x1220x2440 mm) el mueble se divide en 5 bloques que apilados conforman 3 secciones (estantería menor, estantería mayor y mesa), y así lograr el largo (3 mts) y el alto (2 mts) requeridos.

Workshop 2009

Junto a Pablo Banda, trabajamos en [iD]v.2009 donde “nos propusimos investigar y enseñar los potenciales de las nuevas herramientas digitales disponibles, indagando y verificando de manera colectiva mediante workshop los posibles campos de aplicación.  El 2009 finalizó con el desarrollo de un set de tutoriales de autoaprendizaje que combinan Rhino, Grasshopper y Maya.”
